1. Keep warm
Heat your home to at least 18 °c, especially if you have health conditions or are over 65.
Wear lots of thin layers to keep yourself warm while inside and outside.
2. Get protected
Protect yourself and others by getting your flu jab.
Speak to your GP or local pharmacy to check your eligibility and to book an appointment.
3. Stay Active
Keep moving, even on colder days. Regular activity boots your mood and strengthens your immune system.
Try home exercises, dancing, gentle yoga or a brisk walk to stay active.
4. Eat Well
Enjoy a healthy, balanced diet with fruits, vegetables and hearty meals to stay energised.
Keep warm by including soups, stews and warm drinks throughout your day.
5. Practice good hygiene
Wash your hands frequently with soap and water to reduce the spread of germs.
Cough or sneeze into a tissue and dispose of it immediately.
Stay home and avoid work or school if you are unwell, to reduce the spread.
6. Look after your mental health
The darker days can take a toll on your mind. Spend times outdoors when you can to get natural light or consider taking Vitamin D supplements.
Stay connected with friends and family, and don’t hesitate to seek support if you are struggling.
7. Be prepared
Stock up on the essentials like paracetamol, ibuprofen, cold and flu remedies and a thermometer.
