Full Time Receptionist (one year fixed term maternity cover)

We are looking to recruit a Full-Time friendly Receptionist for a One Year Fixed Term Maternity Cover vacancy for our busy Reception team at Village Health Group
Experience is desired but not essential as full training will be given to the right candidate.
The key role will be to help patients at the reception desk and promptly answer the telephone, to book appointments, deal with queries and take clear messages for other colleagues working at the practice.
Confidentiality is essential in this position.
You will be required to cover staff holidays, sickness and busy periods so flexibility is essential along with the ability to work across our 4 sites if needed to ensure adequate staffing levels.
Having access to transport and a full driving license is required.
Monday 07.45 – 16.30 (30 mins lunch)
Tuesday 07.45 – 17.30 (1 hour lunch)
Wednesday 08.00 – 18.30 (1 hour lunch)
Thursday 12.30 – 18.30
Friday 08.00 – 13.00
37.5 hours total per week
The hourly rate is £9.90

Job summary

We are looking for a well-motivated, enthusiastic and committed Practice Nurse to join our friendly forward-thinking practice.

General Practice Nursing is a hugely rewarding area of nursing. You will help people to manage their own conditions, such as asthma, diabetes, or cardiovascular disease. You will help them to stay well and promote healthy lifestyles whilst also assessing, screening, and treating people from small children to the elderly.


Main duties of the job

Previous practice nursing experience is preferable.

We are seeking someone who is a team player and who has a flexible approach to work.

A current full driving licence would be desirable as occasional home visits may be required. You will need a valid NMC PIN and you must be a registered general nurse to apply.

Job Title:   Practice Nurse

Job Purpose:

To provide a high quality care service based on the needs of the Practice population which includes treatment, screening, preventative care and patient education.


Duties and Responsibilities


To manage patients with chronic disease (focusing on respiratory management) , running specific clinic sessions and maintaining robust call and recall systems.

Participate in national screening work such as cervical cytology and deliver the national immunisation and vaccination schedule.

Provide travel health advice and administer appropriate prescribed vaccinations.

Treat patients with minor injuries.

Assist GPs with contraceptive services.

Act as chaperone when required.

Undertake health promotion to help educate patients.

Discuss issues related to the care and support of individual patients within the practice nurse team and refer patients and carers to those that can better meet their needs.


To maintain accurate patient records and enter onto the computer using agreed Read Codes.

Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care.

To collect data and participate in regular Practice audit and research projects.

To contribute to the preparation of any Practice development plans.


To maintain own annual registration with the NMC and adhere to Code of Professional Conduct.

To maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for all PHCT staff, patients, carers and co-workers from other agencies. Ensure all statutory regulations (e.g. Health & Safety, COSHH, etc) are implemented and adhered to.

To promote a professional approach at all times by attire and attitude to patients and staff both in and out of the Practice.

To maintain own continuous professional development and ensure PDP kept up-to-date in line with the requirements of the Practice and registration.

Attend and participate in staff and Practice meetings and in-house clinical training sessions.

Develop own skills and knowledge including active participation in clinical supervision.

Any other reasonable duties that may be required from time-to-time.

Assist with the implementation of standards, guidelines and policies.

Patient Participation Group Applications Available

This volunatary role is aimed at any of our patients who would like to have regular input about the way the surgery operates day to day.

The group currently holds virtual meetings regularly to discuss important topics and give the surgery advice and views from a patient standpoint to help better the service for other patients.
